We all use the NHS and expect, quite rightly, to be able to have rapid diagnosis of any condition. But how do the front line Doctors and Nurses in A&E who do this?
In up to 70% of cases, diagnoses are only made with the support of the Pathology labs – be it in Haematology, Transfusion, Microbiology, Clinical Chemistry or Histopathology. Staff including Biomedical Scientists, Clinical Scientists and Medical Laboratory Assistants work hard to ensure that our conditions are diagnosed as quickly as possible be this from a visit to A&E or a referral from your GP.
These Scientists do not get involved directly with patients but without them we would not get the medical care we expect and deserve.
